FAQs
Why do i need a physical?
If you’re generally healthy, it’s common to put off visiting a healthcare provider. In fact, many people avoid routine medical care altogether. However, regular physical exams are an important part of maintaining your health and well-being.
Chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart disease do not develop overnight. Routine wellness visits allow your provider to identify risk factors early, monitor your overall health, and detect potential health concerns before they become more serious. These visits also provide an opportunity to discuss any new symptoms, concerns, or changes in your health, as well as diagnose and address new medical conditions that may arise.
Your annual physical is dedicated time with your healthcare provider to ask questions, receive personalized health recommendations, and take proactive steps toward preventing illness and promoting long-term wellness.

How often do i need a routine adult exam?
Typically, if you’re in good health with no severe conditions that affect your family (family history), we like to see you once per year. However, if you have been diagnosed with any condition or are at high risk for chronic disease progression, we might need to see you more frequently.
What should i do to prepare for a routine visit?
Some people find it helpful to make a list of questions or concerns they have for their provider, so they don’t forget to discuss any issues that they might have. Preparing a list of current and past medications with the dosages or bringing in the bottle is important. Discuss or review your family health history and review your own health history, including any past surgeries.
what happens during a routine physical?
Routine physical exams are tailored to meet the needs of the individual patient. It is meant to address concerns and your overall health. During this visit, the provider will address the whole person, rather than treat a specific condition. It’s common that the following will be performed at your routine visit with your PCP:
Request blood work or a urinalysis
Peform a physical evaluation
Discuss your family medical history
Go over your prescriptions and over-the-counter medications
is this the same as a sick visit?
No, routine adult or physical exams are not the same as a sick visit. Sick visits are needed in between your regularly scheduled exams for changes in your health condition.
